"Your time is now" - Muse ♪♫

Okay so, I'm still trying to figure out why I made this thing, it's most probably procrastination or the naive idea that someone would actually read this. It doesn't phase me really, I'd rather ramble on here than bore some poor person to death in a face-to-face conversation ha. I'm not sure how long this will last, if it's anything like everything else i start, the novelty would probably wear off pretty soon and i'll find something else to do BUT in the mean time I guess i should blog something then...

Okay so the first thing is uni-related i guess. It's funny reading through all these blogs, about social situations and emotions and i can't help but relate it to sociology - the unspoken rules of society. I studied introductory sociology in my second semester and i have to say it really opened up my eyes to how people work and interact and it was truly interesting. For someone who is pretty self-critical, like myself, I guess i found comfort knowing the in's and out's of society itself, in a sense giving me the upper hand. In a way we're all individual sociologists recounting our lives and events and how we interact with society, but at the same time, the very subjects that sociologists study - if that makes sense. Erving Goffman was a well known sociologist who studied the presentation of self, that life was an ongoing play, people acting and putting on facades to suit different situations. It kinda makes me think, If a blog is supposed to be somewhere someone can relay their own thoughts and ideas, is this our true self? Is this the place where all the masks come off and one bares all? This is the one place I don't want to reveal all to a point where I seem different to how I am in person, i much rather it be a very detailed mirror-image if you will =P

But yes enough with the sociological introduction to my life, for the record that subject annoyed me as much as it did intrigue me, so even I am shocked to find myself blogging about it hah.

So today, I had my second practical for Genetics. Blank out the maths and complicated theories and you've got yourself a pretty interesting and inspiring subject. A lot of the people involved in this unit are undergoing or have completed major research in conservation genetics - researching different species (commonly endangered) and using their genetics as the key to bringing them back from the brink of extinction. I think i found the direction i want to pursue when i've completed my degree. I can get over the maths and the theory behind it all, but ultimately i want to be out there, i want to be "in the field" so to speak and be someone who contributes not only to the revival of a fading species, but to the world of knowledge about them and conservation in general. I want to be the person who discovered the information and statistics used in protests instead of the person trying to ram it down someone's throat. This is what I'm passionate about, and it kinda makes me happy to know i've finally found some sort of direction, instead of intending to complete a pretty obscure degree with the hope I somehow fall into something. I'm glad I've found a goal =]

The rest of my day was totally unrelated to the epiphony that i just had but just as fun lol finally made it over to Andrea's, fighting through the 50 sets of traffic lights and the 40km school zones to go with them. I really hate that she lives further away, but I'm glad we're still just as close. We watched random stuff on youtube and chatted on the floor with an AMAZING mocha that she made topped with some whipped cream andd some jatz and tatziki on the side lol it was so gooodddd.

Well my feet are starting to freeze, i should probably rethink their positioning in front of the fan lol but im too lazy to move the fan and i'm comfortable with my feet there lol I like how i'm my own worst enemy, at least that way everything anyone else could do wouldn't be that bad :P

And on that note- Welcome to my blog =]
